Burns
Every $ORBT spent on a subscription is destroyed. There is a live counter reading the chain directly at orbitalhq.xyz/burn โ this page explains what it is counting, because two different things are shown there and only one of them reduces supply.
The two kinds, and why they are not added together carelessly
| What it means | Does totalSupply fall? | |
|---|---|---|
| Burnt | burnFrom runs inside a payment. The tokens cease to exist. | Yes |
| Dev burn | Tokens sent to 0x000000000000000000000000000000000000dEaD, an address with no private key. | No |
Tokens at the dead address can never move again โ nobody has the key, and nobody ever will. But every explorer still counts them inside totalSupply, because as far as the ERC-20 contract is concerned they are simply held by an address that never spends.
So the live counter shows a headline of everything out of circulation, and lists the two categories separately underneath. Calling the combined figure "burnt supply" would be false, and the number is more convincing when it is exactly right than when it is rounded in our favour.
How a subscription burn works
- You approve the payment contract for exactly the quoted amount.
- The contract calls
burnFromon your balance. totalSupplydrops by that amount, in the same transaction that credits your subscription.
The tokens never reach an Orbital wallet. There is no treasury step, no buyback to announce later and no discretion about whether the burn happens โ it is the payment. If the burn reverts, so does the subscription.
Checking it yourself
Everything is verifiable without trusting this page:
- The live counter at orbitalhq.xyz/burn lists every burn with a link to its transaction.
totalSupply()on the token contract returns the current supply. Compare it with the genesis 1,000,000,000.totalBurned()on the subscription contract returns the running total it has destroyed.
Both contracts are listed in full on Contracts.
Why burn instead of holding
A treasury that collects tokens has to be trusted with them: to not sell, to not move, to not change its mind. A burn removes the question. The tokens are gone in the same block, the supply is smaller for everyone who still holds, and there is no wallet left to watch.
It also means the burn rate is simply how much the product is used. It is not a schedule, not a promise, and not something anyone has to remember to execute.
